If you’ve been keeping an eye on the SS18 trends like we have, you’ll know it’s no secret denim is back in full force. With denim skirts on the catwalks and double denim spotted on street style stars, you may be getting flashbacks to the early noughties when denim reigned supreme.
Thankfully though, SS18 has reimagined denim for the umpteenth time and is full of updated trends and contemporary styles we can all get in on. Forget Britney and Justin’s red carpet head-to-toe denim ensembles, we’ve got the lowdown on how to style this season’s denim so it’s sleek and sophisticated. It’s 2018 not 2008, after all!

Kick flare, wide leg, culottes… with skinny jeans no longer loved by the fashion crowd and so many different cuts of jean on offer, it’s hard to know where to start. This season though, it’s all about the straight leg. The trick to keeping this silhouette firmly in the present day is with sharp cuts and clever details.

Our answer to the straight leg revival is with these cropped Cubic number that features a lattice detail all up the outside of both legs. Pair with an oversized men’s shirt and cool jacket.

Embellished jeans were a big hit last season thanks to pearl embroidered hems. And if you can’t bear to give up your decorated denim this season, you don’t have to! From pretty patchwork prints to heavily gilded styles, there's no reason your jeans need be boring.

Our Cubic jeans that feature tulle adornment in summery shades of purple and orange are sure to have you standing out from the crowd.

If the thought of a denim skirt gives you flashbacks to your early teens when every single girl would wear her denim mini on non-school uniform day, fear not. The denim skirt has been reinvented this season by the likes of Dior, Vetements and Saint Laurent and has since been spotted on fashion girls aplenty, bringing this old favourite back to life. The key is to make the look feel grown up, so pair a mini with a statement blazer.

We’re loving the combination of a casual t-shirt tucked into a denim midi worn with a pair of quirky heels – major cool girl vibes. (Coming soon!)

Don’t save your denim for just your jeans and jacket though. As the noughties proved, anything and everything looks good in denim! Well, almost everything… But one thing that is definitely at the top of our denim wish list is a dress. With catwalk offerings including cold shoulder styles, belted designs, and frill details, we’re spoilt for choice!
We’re owning the look in a pinafore dress. This minimalist style in dark indigo is the wash of the moment. Wear it alone or layer a chunky knit underneath for a laid back approach.

AKA the Canadian tuxedo, double denim is definitely in the early 00s territory thanks to B*Witched and Paris and Nicole’s Simple Life days. For the SS18 update though, it’s all about a sleek and simple denim jacket with straight leg jeans. Our favourite street style looks include layering a midi dress over the jeans to break up the blue, and choosing a jean jacket with interest, like a faux fur collar.
Here at OTL Headquarters, we’re styling our double denim in a dark wash jean jacket with a feather hem and pairing with our favourite black Articles of Society jeans.

White denim has a bit of a reputation about being hard to wear, but forget your past preconceptions and get ready for a white wash! With pastels and Crayola brights the two big colour trends this season, white is the perfect neutral to balance the sunny shades.
Tick off three trends in one thanks to our Daphnea white denim jacket and matching denim mini!
