Forget clean cuts and straight silhouettes – this season is all about the ruffle.  The ruffle has flounced its way back into our wardrobes this Spring Summer with a new lease of life and the fashion-sphere has gone crazy for it.

Has the frill matured from its ‘oh so girly’ past life? We think so.

The once romanticised detailing that gave a soft, feminine touch to any look it was laced upon has evolved and taken on a new sleek and sophisticated appearance. It’s been brought back to life by fabrics such as leather, which was heavily featured on the runways of Alexander McQueen and thanks to Gucci, we’ve seen once upon a time, dull office attire revived by the ruffle being incorporated into shirting and skirting.

It doesn’t matter whether they are big, small, asymmetric or diagonal, it goes without saying that they add instant flare to any look. The ruffle has us wondering whether any outfit is ever really complete without it? I can bet we’ve all succumbed to a few ‘cheap frills’ in our lifetime - so, what’s the harm in a few more, here are our three favourite pieces and how to wear them…

Not sure if ruffles are really your thing? Well you clearly haven't seen them in a leather look! This high-neck top is a must-have for any drama queen. The multi-layered style is not for the faint-hearted, but will look super stylish when worn with a bright miniskirt or skinny jeans with barely-there heels. Pull your hair into a low-slung pony and go easy on the accessories to let this style works it’s black magic.

As if the multiple ruffles and mullet hem weren't enough, a gold thread star pattern has been woven throughout that will ensure you shine. There's no need to go overboard with accessories as this frock is the talking point all on its own. Toughen up the look with chunky ankle boots or add heeled sandals for any formal events you might have this summer.

Stressed about finding a stand-out dress? Sheer-ly not! This frock has done all the styling for you. The blue frilled bardot dress has an attached mesh top underneath so that you don't even need to think about ways to wear it. The high neck sheer top sits beautifully underneath the defined horizontal bardot neckline. There's no need for an accessories overload with this one either - the deconstructed detailing is enough to make this dress 'wow'.
