Creating a wardrobe that takes you through the seasons gracefully is perceived as an art in the fashion world. This time of year is a minefield for fashion faux pars and it goes without saying that we’ve all had our fair few in the past. But why is it so damn hard? Well,it’s all about finding the perfect balance between fabric compositions and suitable cuts – these are the holy grail when it comes to making it through seasonal limbo.

One of the key things to creating the perfect transitional look has been drummed into us from such a young age… who knew, hey? Let us take you back to those early teenage days when you’d spend hours getting ready, just to get to the door to be told by your mum to ‘take a coat, in case you get cold’. At the time, all you could think about was how your mum was completely sabotaging your killer outfit, but a few hours later all would be forgotten when you were on your way home, warm. This was just one of the valuable lessons our mums have taught us, but to cut to the point - layering is key!

Spring and Summer may be poking its head around the corner in the form of a few sunny days, but we’re still amidst April and that only means one thing – sporadic showers and temperamental temperatures. So as always, we are here to see you through the seasons in style with four of our favourite transitional pieces for SS17.

The Trench Coat
Not as heavy, nor as bulky as your winter coat, but still does the trick when it comes to those chillier days and evenings. As well as being super versatile, the trench coat is renowned for being a classic and a worthwhile investment that will see you through seasons to come. Not forgetting its mustard colour-way that is bound to brighten up any of those remaining dull days.

The Chambray Shirt
Meet the ultimate shirt for layering! Its lightweight fabric means it’s perfect for those sunnier days, but still allows you to stay warm on a cooler evening. We love this shirt teamed with a jumpsuit, it’s the definition of office chic but if you’re after a more casual look, grab a skirt and a pair of trainers for a cool weekend vibe.

The Midi Dress
At the first glimpse of sun, it’s inevitable that you’d want to opt for something slightly prettier than the ‘go to’ jeans and boots combo you’ve lived in all winter. So why not grab a knitted midi dress? It’s long sleeves and length make it the ultimate transitional piece – it even looks fabulous with a sleeveless ruffled jacket, too!

The Cropped Flare
It’s not quite shorts weather yet, but that doesn’t mean you can’t show a little leg – even if it is only an ankle! These cropped flares are an essential in between seasons, just wear with an off the shoulder top and slider trainers and you have the makings of the perfect limbo look.
